The Gurkha brand dates back to 1887 during the height of the British Rule, but it was officially reborn in 1989 when Kaizad Hansotia acquired the name and transformed it into a symbol of ultimate luxury. Famously dubbed the “Rolls Royce of cigars,” Gurkha gained its elite reputation by creating ultra-premium, meticulously packaged blends that historically catered to royalty, military elites, and high-profile aficionados. The Gurkha Ghost Silver Shadow (often referred to simply as the Ghost Shadow vitola) is one of the brand’s most celebrated modern releases. It is widely recognized for its striking, holographic silver and black band that mirrors the company’s flair for extravagant presentation.
This cigar is equipped with a dark and oily Brazilian Arapiraca Maduro wrapper, an aged Criollo ’98 binder, and a carefully selected blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The first third starts with a bold blast of red pepper spice and deep smoky notes of leather, which quickly settle into a thick, creamy smoke with a touch of sweetness. The second third transitions into rich, earthy flavors mixed with delicious undertones of cocoa, toasted bread, and a unique hint of cinnamon. While the final third shifts toward a deeper, heavier profile, dominating the palate with notes of dark chocolate, heavy espresso, and a smooth, sweet nougat finish. Overall, it is a remarkably balanced medium-to-full-bodied smoke that offers plenty of complex, dark dessert notes with just enough spice to keep the experience engaging from start to finish.
